Dear Parents, Guardians, Care Givers, and Community Members,

The Clinton Community School District (CCSD) would like to remind you about a new law (Senate File 2435) aimed at addressing chronic absenteeism in schools across the state of Iowa. Chronic absenteeism refers to students missing 10% or more of a grading period, which can significantly impact their academic success and overall well-being.

Under this new legislation, schools are required to closely monitor student attendance and take proactive steps to address chronic absenteeism. This includes partnering with families to identify barriers to regular attendance, providing support services, and, if necessary, implementing interventions to help students stay on track.

The goal of this law is not punitive, but to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed by attending school regularly. We believe that with your support and collaboration, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our students.

For more information, please refer to the parent/student handbook located on each school’s website or reach out to your student’s school for more information..

The Clinton Community School District appreciates your partnership in supporting student success and well-being!

Sincerely,

Wes Golden, Ed.D.

Superintendent
