Athletic Awards
Varsity Letter
The Varsity Letter Award is presented to student-athletes at the varsity level who have reached and exceeded in the athletic criteria that has been set forth by each sport’s head varsity coach. The varsity coach of each sport will recommend to the athletic director that the athlete receive a varsity letter.
Athlete will receive a certificate showing that the athlete is a varsity letter winner
Athlete is eligible to receive the “C” letter for their letterman’s jacket (1st time as a varsity letter winner in any sport)
Athlete is eligible to receive a sport pin for that particular sport (1st time as a varsity letter winner in that particular sport only)
Athlete is eligible to receive a gold bar (each time they earn a varsity letter in that particular sport)
Example 1 – A junior athlete earns a varsity letter in football for the first time in football or any other sport. He would be eligible to receive:

Football Pin for letterman’s jacket
1 Gold Bar for letterman’s jacket
The same athlete earns a varsity letter in football his senior year. He would be eligible to receive:

Example 2 – A sophomore volleyball players earns her first varsity letter in any sport in volleyball. She would be eligible to receive:
Varsity Letter Certificate
“C” Letter for letterman’s jacket
Volleyball Pin for letterman’s jacket
1 Gold Bar for letterman’s jacket
The same sophomore athlete also earns a varsity letter for bowling. She would be eligible to receive:

Bowling Pin for letterman’s jacket
1 Gold Bar for letterman’s jacket
The same athlete earns a volleyball varsity letter her junior year. She would be eligible to receive:

1 Gold Bar for letterman’s jacket
*Athletes who are eligible to receive any letterman jacket awards may pick them up from Ms. Baker in the activities office.
Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) All-Conference Awards
The Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) recognizes athletic excellence through its All-Conference program. Each of the conference’s 20 varsity sports honor select student-athletes with All-MAC awards at the end of the season. Student-athletes that earn All-MAC will be recognized in the local media and receive a certificate outlining their accomplishment. Student-athletes must be in good academic standing and a member of the team in their respective sport at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for such selection.
All-District Awards
Football as well as other sports will recognize athletic excellence through its All-District program. At the end of each sport’s district competition, student-athletes will be nominated and selected by the head coaches from each school in the district. Student-athletes that earn All-District will be recognized in the local media and receive a certificate outlining their accomplishment.
All-State Awards
Several Iowa Coaches’ Associations as well as media outlets recognize athletic and academic excellence through their All-State programs. Those selections will be made by the media and coaches’ associations at the end of the season. Student-athletes that earn 1st Team All-State honors in their respective sport, will have their photograph framed and installed in the All-State Hallway of Yourd Gymnasium. Student-athletes that earn All-State will also be recognized in the local media and receive a certificate outlining their accomplishment.
